BN will not contest Batu Sapi by-election - Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) has decided to skip the Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election, said its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix).

He said the decision was made to avoid a Covid-19 outbreak in the constituency as experienced in the Sabah state election recently.

“In BN’s view, the well-being and health of the people should be the priority,” he said in a statement tonight.

In this regard, he said BN would be leaving it to the wisdom of the Election Commission (EC) to decide on the appropriate campaign period and polling date.

EC has recently announced that a by-election would be held to fill the seat which fell vacant following the death of its incumbent Datuk Liew Vui Keong from suspected lung infection on Oct 2. — Bernama
