Police officer pleads not guilty to receiving bribe

    SHAH ALAM: A police officer today pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to receiving a bribe from a foreigner on March 14.
    Insp Raja Mohamad Izzudin Raja Kamarulzaman, 30, of the Subang Jaya police headquarters CID is accused of receiving RM10,000 from Bangladeshi Md Harun UR Rashid.
    The alleged bribe was purportedly to induce the accused to prevent Md Harun's friend from being deported by the Immigration Department.
    The accused is charged under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison or minimum fine of five times the bribe or RM10,000 whichever is higher, upon conviction.
    The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Lokman Kassim, while lawyer Ridha Abdah Subri represented the accused.
    Judge Slamat Yahya set bail at RM6,000 with one surety and scheduled April 10 for remention. – Bernama
