‘Kidex will reduce congestion in PJ by 30%’

PETALING JAYA: KIDEX Sdn Bhd dismissed allegations that proposed construction of 14.9km Kinrara-Damansara Highway (Kidex) will result in heavier traffic congestion in Petaling Jaya.
KIDEX chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nor Idrus said Kidex would actually reduce the congestion in PJ especially in Jalan Semangat and nearby areas.
"Once Kidex is up, there will be a 30% reduction of traffic in PJ and it will only take 15 minutes to get to Kinrara from Damansara or vice versa.
"If Kidex is really not beneficial to anyone, both the federal and state governments would not approve the project in the first place," said Mohd Nor at a press conference following a protest by "Say No to KIDEX" group today morning.
The "Say No to KIDEX" group comprised 12 resident associations within Petaling Jaya who alleged that the new skyway would not benefit the Petaling Jaya folk as it would bring in more traffic into the area.
Mohd Nor said there would be seven interchanges along Kidex to support the rapid development along the alignment covering Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Puchong and Bandar Kinrara. The seven interchanges are NKVE, Bandar Utama, Sprint, Federal Highway Route 2, NPE, Kesas and Bukit Jalil Highway.
The group today morning had urged Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to immediately stop the proposed construction of the Kinrara-Damansara Highway as they claimed the project will affect the people in the area.
They held a 20-minute protest outside the administrative building of the state government before their spokesman, David Yoong, handed over a five-point memorandum to Khalid's private secretary Mohd Yasid Bidin.
