TELUK INTAN: A two-year-old girl and her mother died after the car they were in collided with a lorry at Km 47 of the Teluk Intan-Sitiawan Road here yesterday.
In the 5pm incident, the victims, identified as Iman Nur Qurratunnisa Muhammad Syafie, two, and her mother Nurzuraiyanie Habil, 30, died at the scene.
Meanwhile, Nurzuraiyanie's son, Muhammad Iman Qashrin, five, was unhurt. Hilir Perak District Police Chief, ACP Goh Kok Liang, said Nurzuraiyanie, who was driving a Proton Saga BLM, from the direction of Teluk Intan heading towards Sitiawan, was believed to be trying to overtake the vehicle ahead of her when the car collided with the lorry coming from the opposite direction.
"The car she was driving spun several times and burst into flames while the lorry skidded onto the left shoulder of the road," he told reporters here today.
He said the lorry driver, 37, whose identity was withheld, could not avoid the car as it was too close, causing both vehicles to collide.
Goh said the two victims, who died, were taken to the Teluk Intan Hospital for an autopsy while the lorry driver and the surviving child were being treated in the same hospital.
The autopsy revealed that Nurzuraiyanie suffered severe injuries in several parts of the body while her daughter had serious injuries in the head and was badly burnt, he said. – Bernama
