Shahidan defends Esscom

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim defended the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), despite coming under huge criticism from various quarters over the lack of security in eastern Sabah.
He said the recent abduction of two foreigners - a Chinese and a Filipino in a resort in the state - was not an "intrusion" but rather a case of "trans-border crime".
"After Esscom was established to prevent invasion or outside intrusion like the Lahad Datu incident, which was a black mark in our history, has not happened again.
"That is a success. What happened recently was trans-border crime," he told the Dewan today, adding that the incident should not be used to justify that Esscom is not effective.
