GEORGE TOWN: The Consumers' Association of Penang (CAP) has urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) to take immediate action on the erection of a telecommunication tower at a primary school in Bayan Baru.
Its president SM Mohamed Idris said the tower, which is about 30 metres high, has raised concern among the residents in the neighbourhood.
He said the residents fear that the tower might affect public health, especially among the 1,000 people staying in the vicinity.
"Among the health problems that have been reported by those exposed to low level electromagnetic radiation from telecommunication towers are headache, numbness of hands and feet, nausea, vomiting, sleep disruption and fatigue," Idris added.
