Army retiree, friend charged with cheating on MyKad issuance

    KUALA LUMPUR: An army retiree and his friend pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to cheating a man regarding the issuance of Mykad for Indonesian nationals last year.
    Abdul Wahab Yusuf, 59, and Budi Harto M Yusof, 45, a permanent resident, were charged with cheating Mohammad Rozli Yusuf, 46, into believing that they could get a Malaysian identity card or Mykad for Indonesian nationals named "Memek" and "Yono" through the Sabah Bajau Welfare Association, which prompted Mohamad Rozli to agree to pay them RM5,000 deposit for the 'service'.
    Abdul Wahad also claimed trial to another charge of cheating Mohamad Rozli into believing that he could get a Mykad for another Indonesian national named "Roni" through PAKBIS, which prompted Mohamad Rozli to pay him another deposit of RM2,500.
    Budi Harto, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to two other counts of cheating Mohammad Rozli to get Mykad for Indonesian nationals, known as "Aminah" and "Abbas" through PAKBIS, which prompted the man to pay him a deposit of RM1,200.
    The duo were alleged to have committed the offences at K Residence, Avenue K, Jalan Ampang and at Putra Muda Hotel, Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz, here between 2.35pm on Jan 22, 2013 and 7pm on March 13, 2013.
    The cheating charge under Section 417 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of five years or fine, or both, upon conviction. Judge Rosbiahanin Arifin allowed Abdul Wahab bail of RM11,000 in one surety, while Budi Harto was allowed bail of RM10,000 and ordered to surrender his passport to the court.
    May 23 was fixed for mention. Prosecuting officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Mohd Nur Lokman prosecuted, while both accused were not represented. – Bernama
