KUALA LUMPUR: Police are on the trail of a man and his two wives who are believed to have cheated 100 individuals of RM250,000 that was meant to perform their umrah, last year.
Kuala Lumpur Commercial Crime investigation department chief ACP Izany Abdul Ghany said the suspects had allegedly deceived victims by offering cheaper Umrah packages (RM3,999) through a company, called 1UMRRH Rakyat Sdn Bhd.
In connection with the case, police are looking for Zakaria Hassan, 56, (last known address No 5, Jalan AU 1C/3G, Taman Keramat Permai), Suziana Mohd Yamin, 47, (last known address No 51, Persiaran Bukit Setiawangsa, Taman Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur) and Syarifah Norfazihan Syed Mustaffa, 36, (last known address No. 16, Taman Ibai Indah, Kuala Terengganu).
Izany said the man has three wives and that one of them had already been detained for further investigations.
He said the modus operandi of the company which operated in Wangsa Maju was to ask clients to make full payment immediately for the lower Umrah package.
"Upon receiving the payment, the suspect would inform their clients that their flight to perform Umrah was cancelled and their payment would be refunded using postdated cheques.
"The suspect used various tactics to deceive clients, including giving false information like failure to obtain visa from Saudi Arabia, etc," he said.
Public with information are urged to come forward and assist police in the investigation. – Bernama
