GEORGE TOWN: The family of the late Karpal Singh has appealed to the media for privacy as they mourn their patriarch.

The request comes after they went to collect the ashes of the prominent politician at the Batu Gantung crematorium early today morning.

Karpal's sons, Penang Exco member Jagdeep Singh Deo and Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo, urged the media present at the site to give them some privacy.

Jadgdeep said he and his family would like some space as his father would have wanted that too.

"If you all love my father, please grant us his wish.

"We understand that all of you have to carry out your jobs, but please do not take any photos when we come out later after collecting the ashes," he said to members of the media who had gathered at the crematorium premises.
Photographers were allowed to take pictures of the family arriving at the site but were barred from doing so when they were collecting the ashes.

Gobind also declined to elaborate on where and when the ashes will be scattered into the sea, saying that it was a personal family matter.

The Bukit Gelugor MP died after he was involved in an accident on April 17 near Kampar, Perak, just after midnight that day.

His remains were cremated after a funeral with state honours which saw more than 10,000 people come to pay their last respects to the popular lawyer and politician on Sunday.
