KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix) met China's Vice-President Li Yuanchao at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing yesterday.
"Dr Mahathir was accompanied by Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Michael Yeoh and Country Heights Holdings Bhd Founder and Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew," ASLI said in a statement today.
Dr Mahathir's meeting with the Chinese Vice-President was the highest level meeting with a Chinese leader since the MH370 incident.
"Dr Mahathir and the Vice-President discussed various proposals to deepen bilateral ties between Malaysia and China as well as proposals for the Zheng Ho Economic and Multicultural Association, which is in line with China's President Xi Jinping's Maritime Silk Road Initiative," it said.
Dr Mahathir also briefed Li on the 6th World Chinese Economic Forum (WCEF) which will be held in Chongqing, China later this year, and invited the Vice-President to attend the WCEF, it added. – Bernama
