Shafie: Rural ministry exceeds five NKRAs

PUTRAJAYA: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has exceeded the five National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) targets it was tasked with last year, said its minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pix).
He said firstly, the ministry succeeded in building 29.94 km of rural roads, surpassing its NKRA target of 19.40 km, secondly, completing 29.94 km of rural-link roads against the 17 km target.
Thirdly, he said the rural electricity supply lighted up 497 houses, exceeding the target of 495 houses, and fourthly and fifthly, building and repairing 200 houses under a special aid programme against the target of 100 houses.
He said for the past three years (2010-2013), the rural water supply scheme reached 309,202 houses while the rural electricity supply brought power to 115,096 houses, he told reporters after presenting the ministry's excellence awards 2013 here today.
Shafie said the ministry had also built and repaired 4,068.39 km of rural roads and 61,062 houses under the Housing Assistance Programme for the past three years.
Earlier in his speech, he urged ministry employees to embrace five core values in order to enhance their performance. They are namely, producing creative ideas; fostering positive work values; introducing and improving work system; coaching staff to be creative and thinking outside the box; developing ability to solve problems quickly; and creating values, he said. – Bernama
