KUALA LUMPUR: A bogus policeman and his accomplice have been arrested for a spate of robberies in the Klang Valley.
The 29-year-old man, who is from Alor Star, and his accomplice, a 24-year-old man from Selangor, were detained in Taman Bandar Baru Mahkota on April 16.
City Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief ACP Khairi Ahrasa said that the 29-year-old had served as a former auxiliary policeman for four years and had police items like handcuffs, pocket book, belt, beret and vest which he used when carrying out the robberies.
Khairi said that based on initial investigations, the two had carried out several robberies in the Klang Valley since February and had stolen goods worth about RM80,000.
"Police managed to recover various items, including nine laptops and seven smartphones, during the arrest," he said, adding that the suspects have been remanded until tomorrow.
He also said police are also looking for two more suspects, believed to be army personnel, involved in the robberies.
Speaking at a press conference at the police contingent headquarters here, Khairi said the case is being investigated under the Penal Code for armed robbery.
On another case, Khairi said police arrested a security guard who stabbed his colleague at a flat in Kampung Abdullah Hukum here on Tuesday.
The suspect, from Petaling Jaya, stabbed the 30-year-old victim with a knife following an argument at about 10.50am, he added.
Khairi said the suspect, 34, had four criminal records including for drug-related offences.
"We are trying to determine how a person with a criminal record is able to work with a security firm," he said, adding that the suspect has been remanded for six days. The case is being investigated for murder.
