KUALA LUMPUR: Only 117 graduates of teachers' training colleges (TTCs) in the country have not been offered places because they failed in the interviews, said Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan .
He said they were among the 6,917 teaching graduates who completed their studies last year.
Up till early this month, 6,800 graduates were appointed to permanent posts in stages by the Teachers' Services Commission (SPP) to teach in schools throughout the country, he said in the Senate sitting here today.
Kamalanathan was replying to a question from Senator S. Nallakaruppan who wanted to know the number of graduates from TTCs who still did not get places as promised.
"Based on the SPP Circular Number 2 (2013), those who failed the interviews are allowed to reapply after six months from the date of the results are released on the Jobs Malaysia portal," he said.
"However, they have to compete with the current graduates including from the government institutes of higher learning (IPTA) to fill up the limited places," he said.
Kamalanathan said the government had never differentiated between graduates from the teachers training colleges or from the IPTAs, and the quota for places were given out equally.
"We will make sure that any graduates who complete their studies whether at the teachers' training college or in the IPTA will be given equal opportunity but they have to fulfil the conditions," he said. – Bernama
