KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Jailani Johari said the government does not condone cyber crime and acts firmly, including taking legal action against the perpetrators.
The ministry works in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) and the Attorney General's Chamber.
"We will not compromise with individuals found guilty of using fake accounts or impersonated to defame others," he said replying to a supplementary question from Senator Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Kader who want to know action taken against owners of fake accounts in the Dewan Negara, here today.
The MCMC had blocked 2,753 websites for violating the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and other laws from January to October last year.

Jailani said the ministry faced difficulty tracing fake account users as they used fake ID to defame, criticise and threaten other people.
The government had launched the Smart Click programme to raise awareness and educate the community to be more responsible, ethical and cautious when surfing.
He told Senator Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud the ministry via the MCMC always strive to enhance internet speed by improving the communications infrastructure.
This was made via the National Broadband Plan 2010, a comprehensive plan aimed at raising broadband internet usage.
"Via the plan, the MCMC managed to push household broadband penetration rate to 67.3% from 55.6% in 2010," he added. – Bernama
