'Serial Casanova' gets jail, whipping for cheating woman

    GEORGE TOWN: The Majistrate's court today sentenced a computer technician dubbed 'serial casanova' to four years' jail and one stroke of the rattan for cheating a woman two years ago.
    Majistrate Sri Pracha Nanthini Balabedha sentenced K. Prabaharan, 45, after he pleaded guilty and ordered his sentence to run from the date of his rearrest last January 2.
    According to the facts of the case, the accused befriended the victim, a 29-year-old teacher who taught at a Tamil school in Pahang through the social website two years ago.
    The victim was deceived into handing over a sum of RM16,000 as repayment of debt to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation in Bank Rakyat, Jalan Magazine here in December 2012.
    The case was conducted by deputy public prosecutor, Nur Farhana Hashim while the accused was represented by counsel Ravi Chandran.
    In mitigation, the accused's counsel applied to the court for leniency as K. Prabaharan had to support his wife, a housewife, and two children, aged 19 and 20, who were currently attending college. – Bernama
