CYBERJAYA: The visit to Cyberjaya on Sunday by US President Barack Obama, who is expected to launch the Malaysia Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC), will enhance the township's image as a smart city.
Faris Yahaya (pix), managing director of Cybercity manager Cyberview Sdn Bhd, said the country's premier 'intelligent city' is now not only a global information and communications technology (ICT) hub but also a regional research and development (R&D) centre.
Speaking to reporters after taking part in the 'MaGIC Ride' with Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin here today, Faris expressed confidence that more US ICT and R&D-based companies will choose Cyberjaya as an operational base.
Cyberjaya now hosts some 800 ICT and non-ICT firms, including 43 multinational corporations.
US organisations that have established their global offices or data centres here include Dell, Hewlett-Packard, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), American International Assurance (AIA), American International Group (AIG); AT&T; Prudential; Silicon Graphics International (SGI) and Monster Technologies.
It is also home to six universities and colleges, and by 2016 will have a permanent population of 100,000 people.
MaGIC is aimed at transforming Malaysia into a dynamic entrepreneurial nation by enabling domestic and international entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.
The centre is designed to become a one-stop hub for entrepreneurs, providing every facility they need, from obtaining funding from banks or providing incubators for venture capitalists developing start-ups to improving their products and services.
It will also help with intellectual property registrations and offer facilities for training, coaching and mentoring. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak is also expected to accompany Obama at the launch. – Bernama
