One month delay for 'biometric' visas to India, says envoy

    KUALA LUMPUR: The introduction of biometrics registration for all Malaysians applying for visas to India, including Tourist and Business visas, has been postponed for a month which came into effect today.
    The Indian High Commission's First Secretary (Politics and Information), K.N. Ramachandran said the decision was made by the Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia T.S. Tirumurti, after a meeting with representatives from the MIC, here on Monday.
    "We understand there was a problem among the Indians during the application process, after discussions this ruling has been postponed for a month," he said.
    It was earlier announced through the www.indiavisa.com.my portal that: "As per the confirmation of the High Commission of India, Malaysia – every applicant applying for a visa for India will have to visit the Visa Centre for Biometric enrolment.
    "This is applicable for all visa categories including tourism and business. Travel agents or any other representatives cannot submit the application on behalf of the applicant. The new policy comes into effect from April 1, 2014."– Bernama
