MBPJ’s claims on Kidex is untrue

PETALING JAYA: More controversy has surfaced on the proposed construction of the 14.9km Kinrara-Damansara Highway (Kidex).
This time, a Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor claimed that despite several requests by the council and assurances given by the highway concessionaire, KIDEX Sdn Bhd, at a briefing last December, the complete documents and information on the impact of the skyway on traffic in the city have yet to be provided.
Lee Suet Sen said the concessionaire had yet to provide the council with details like policy justifications and drawings to support an amendment to the local plan.
The information needed includes the Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) report, detailed alignment of proposed highway, public facilities provided such as elevated walkways and ramps for traffic to enter and exit Kidex without tolls.
"These documents and details would enable MBPJ to justify to the public that such amendments would benefit them and the project was consistent with the sustainability policies of the city," said Lee.
Meanwhile, Kidex chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nor Idrus said today that all relevant information on the proposed highway has been provided to the technical team of the MBPJ engineering department.
"We have been briefing all the involved parties as well as interacting with the relevant departments from other government agencies on the project technicalities and the alignment of the highway.
"I am puzzled as to why the councillor claims that we have not furnished MBPJ with full information. However, we are not aware that the information provided is insufficient as this was not told to us," he said when commenting on the claims by Lee.
Mohd Nor said the only information that they did not provide to MBPJ were those that were confidential for the government only.
"One such information is the report on the TIA. When the report is completed in June or July, we need to submit the assessment report first to the Malaysia Highway Authority (MHA) for approval.
"Once that is done, the information will be released to the relevant authorities through MHA but if given the permission by MHA, we will release it to the relevant authorities," he said.
