Two major Chinese groups join chorus of voices against hudud

PETALING JAYA: Two major Chinese groups in the country have joined the chorus of voices against PAS's latest attempt to implement hudud in Kelantan.
Hua Zong (Federation of Chinese Associations of Malaysia) president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah stressed that time is running out and urged like-minded organisations to voice their objections to hudud in solidarity.
According to a report in Sin Chew Daily yesterday, Pheng said a Hua Zong delegation will meet Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah in Kota Baru next week to voice the Chinese community's concern regarding hudud as well as to try to talk PAS into giving up tabling a private member's bill in the Parliament to seek the implementation of the Islamic penal law.
He hoped that Mohd Amar, as a key figure in PAS's hudud move, would understand and heed the Chinese community's wishes and convey them to the PAS top leadership and state government.
Pheng urged Chinese-based political parties and Chinese organisations to form a single front at this trying time to voice their objections to the implementation of hudud, which would affect not only Muslims but also non-Muslims eventually.
He said it is time that all Chinese-based parties discarded their political differences in the face of a common challenge.
Meanwhile, Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) president Datuk Lim Kok Cheong said the Chinese community is at a critical juncture and needs to pull together to face the hudud issue.
He said with MCA losing its direction and DAP being restrained on the issue, the community is in a never-before-seen dilemma.
Stating clearly ACCCIM's objection to hudud, he warned that its implementation in Kelantan will have an impact on the country's religious and development frameworks.
