MCA: Hudud implementation still hazy among non-Muslims

SHAH ALAM: The MCA firmly rejects Kelantan's plan to introduce hudud (Islamic penal law) as its implementation is still hazy as non-Muslims feels that this is part of PAS political agenda, said its deputy president, Datuk Wee Ka Siong.
"Why didn't they announce it during the 13th general election (GE13) campaign, they didn't dare to mention this in the election manifesto?
"Definitely what they are doing has resulted in a wide spectrum of notions and perspectives among non-Muslims," he told reporters after taking part in a discourse organised by a local Malay daily entitled 'Hudud: Are We Ready' here today.
The MCA is not against Islam, instead it respects it as the official religion of the country as enshrined in the constitution, he said, adding that the party had no problem with the federal government quest to strengthen the Syariah law.
Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said Kelantan was ready to table the Private Member Bill on hudud in Parliament in November at the latest as it draft had been completed while the majority non-Muslims in Kelantan supported it.
Earlier, Wasatiyah Institute Malaysia deputy director Dr Mushaddad Hasbullah and former Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin supported the introduction of hudud, but asked for the law to be reviewed as its implementation was not appropriate at this juncture.
Kelantan PAS, through its parliamentarians, plans to table a Private Members' Bill on hudud in the Dewan Rakyat to get approval to implement the state's Syariah Criminal Code Enactment (2) 1993 by December. (Punishment for offences under hudud are corporal in nature, involving whipping, stoning to death and amputation of limbs.) – Bernama
