PETALING JAYA: The goodwill walk by non-governmental organisation United Sikhs Malaysia, has been receiving phenomenal support from the public.
“For example, the (residents) from the Tampok village actually participated in our walk and joined us as (a show of) gratitude,” said group leader Rishiwant Singh when contacted.
He said there were only eight full-distance walkers but about 300 people have joined the event and he is expecting a much larger crowd when they reach their destination, Malacca Gudwara Sahib, at 6pm on Saturday.
“It is fun to see how people (join) in while we walk, (to) show their support. (We) expect some 2,000 people to join us during the last leg of our walk, ” he said.
Rishiwant said there is a possibility that Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein will join them closer to the finish line.
He also said the minister had requested MAS chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya to sponsor two airline tickets from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur for two celebrity walkers, Dya Singh and Vic Briggs.
