KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry will take stern action against individuals involved in a school brawl shown in a video that went viral on social media recently.
However, Deputy Education Minister II P. Kamalanathan said the ministry will wait for the police report on the matter before making any decision.
"We view the matter seriously as we do not want bullying to occur (among students). "But since this is a police investigation, let them investigate the matter first," he told reporters here today.
The 77-second video shows a group of school girls in tudung attire kicking and pulling the hair of another student.
Although none of the girls were seen to be wearing school emblems, it is learnt that they are students from a school in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak.
Assistant chief of the inspector-general of police secretariat ACP Datin Asmawati Ahmad had issued a statement on the Royal Malaysian Police Facebook page, saying the incident is believed to have taken place on April 25.
She added that a report was lodged on May 25 and investigation is being carried out.
