Ram Karpal, Mah sworn in as new Members of Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Members of Parliament who won the by-elections last month, Ram Karpal Singh (Bukit Gelugor) and Datuk Mah Siew Keong (Teluk Intan) were sworn in as new members of the august House at the second meeting of the second term of the 13th Parliament, beginning here today.
The swearing-in ceremony was held before Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee, who later expressed his aspiration that the new members could provide useful and constructive contributions and serve the Dewan and country with excellence.
Ram had won the Bukit Gelugor by-election on May 25 while Mah was declared as the Teluk Intan MP on May 31.
Meanwhile, Kiandee also said that the second meeting of the second term would sit for eight days beginning today until June 19.
He added that the government had decided that the Parliament Calendar for the Second Meeting of the Third Term to begin on Oct 7 until Oct 27 based on the Standing Order 11 (2) of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders.
He said this was because the tabling of the 2014 Budget, which had earlier been set for Oct 31, had been brought forward to Oct 10.
In addition, the Deputy Speaker also recorded the condolence of the House to the members of the Perak Royal family on the demise of the late Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahulah on Wednesday, May 28 2014.
"The House also extends its condolences to the family members of the Bukit Gelugor Member of Parliament, Karpal Singh and the Teluk Intan MP Seah Leong Peng, which represented a great loss to the Dewan Rakyat," he said before requesting all MPs to observe a minute's silence.
At the sitting this time, six bills are expected to be tabled for first reading, namely the Supplementary Supply (2014) Bill 2014, Private Higher Educational Institutions (Amendment) Bill 2014, and Promotion of Investments (Amendment) Bill 2014.
Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (Amendment) Bill 2014, Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Amendment) Bill 2014 and the Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (Amendment) Bill 2014. – Bernama
