Terror suspect held; gun, ammo seized
PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested another Malaysian suspected to be involved with militant activities, seizing a firearm and ammunition in Kuala Kangsar today.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin said in arresting the 25-year-old suspect, police also seized a home-made rifle and 48 rounds of ammunition.
The arrest was made by the Special Branch's counter-terrorism division during an operation carried out in Kampung Kelebor in Kuala Kangsar today.
"The weapon is believed to be used for militant training in the Gunung Arang Para, Kampung Nyior Ketior near Kuala Kangsar in December last year," he said in a statement.
Mohd Bakri said the suspect is being investigated under Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
The arrest was a follow-up to operations carried out by the police to tackle militants in the country since April 28 this year.
To date, 16 suspects have been arrested in connection with militant activities, he added.
