Man charged with threatening tourist via email

    KUALA LUMPUR: A man who threatened a Vietnamese tourist via email after snatching her mobile phone ended up in the Magistrate's Court.
    Muhammad Azhan Hamzah, 24, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge when his case was heard before Magistrate Nurul'Ain Abdul Rahim today.
    He allegedly sent an email to Vietnamese tourist Lee Thi Hang, demanding her for RM1,000 to redeem the mobile phone, an iPhone 4S.
    Muhammad Azhan allegedly committed the offence together with another man still at large at 160-8D Block C, Flat Sri Kelantan, here, at 3.57am on June 11.
    He was charged under Section 385 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail sentence of up to seven years' or fine or whipping or any two, upon conviction.
    Nurul'Ain set the case for mention on June 26. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor N. Joy Jothi while Muhammad Azhan was unrepresented by counsel. – Bernama
