Instilling spirit of unity through lantern-making

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Lantern Making Workshop 2014 will help highlight the cultures and unity found in Malaysia.
The National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) deputy director Mohd Rosli Alias said this after attending the launch of the workshop at SJK (C) Sam Yoke, today
"The concepts learnt (at the workshop) can be applied by all races in the country," he added.
The workshop has attracted more than 50 participants from various local universities such as Universiti Kebangasaan Malaysia and Universiti Malaya, secondary school students as well as members of the public from various ethnic backgrounds.In
"The lantern artworks produced by the participants will be displayed at the 1Malaysia Lantern Tourism Festival 2014, which will be held from Aug 28 until Sept 10," the Malaysia Lantern Art Association president Datuk Liew Kon Seng said.
Each participant will be required to produce a giant lantern which will be displayed at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur's outdoor area for public viewing during the festival, he added.
Also present at the event were guests from the Taiwan Chinese Lantern Artistic Association, who provided professional tutors from Taiwan to instruct the participants in lantern-making.
