PETALING JAYA: Behind the hard-hitting columns he writes twice a week, there's the softer side to theSun's Editor (Special and Investigative Reporting), R. Nadeswaran – he is also involved in community service.
On Saturday, he was made a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya (RCPJ) for his efforts in helping set up the Super Mums bakery.
A community service project in Kelana Jaya, undertaken by the Rotary Club, it is supported by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), theSun, and the Malaysian Institute of Bakers (MIM). Nadeswaran and former RCPJ president Jack Lim were co-coordinators of the project which was launched early this year.
theSun provided commercial-scale baking equipment worth RM120,000, while MIM provided the training. The project provides a source of income for single mothers.
Nadeswaran said: 'There are many projects that I am involved in and I do it without fanfare. It has always been a private thing away from the spotlight."
