Big haul for M'sian delegation at Macau Expo

    KANGAR: Twelve young researchers from Malaysia have won seven gold and five silver medals at the Macau International Innovation and Invention Expo (MIIIE) 2014, which ended on Sunday.
    Malaysia, which was among 30 countries taking part, also won several special awards, Bernama reported.
    Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) centre for graduate studies deputy dean Dr Mukhzeer Mohamad Shahimin, who headed the Malaysian delegation, said in a statement today that UniMAP won two gold medals while five more were clinched by students from Sekolah Menengah Sains (SMS) Selangor, SMS Hulu Selangor, SMS Pokok Sena and Sekolah Seri Puteri.
    Mukhzeer, who is also a Malaysian Invention and Design Society committee member, said UniMAP scientist Laila Mardiah Deraman, supervised by Dr Tengku Nuriati Tengku Izhar, also won an Indonesian special award for her product, Acoustical: Indoor Noise Reduction Panel.
    Students from SMS Tuanku Syed Putra, SMS Selangor and SMS Hulu Selangor won a special award from the World Invention Intellectual Property Association and a special award from Hong Kong Invention Ltd.
    UniMAP vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin said the victories shows that the country's education system not only gave exposure to technology but also nurtured innovation. – Bernama
