Ringgit ends broadly higher against US dollar

    KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed broadly higher against the US dollar and other major currencies today on renewed demand for the domestic unit.
    A currency trader said the local note extended yesterday's rally against the greenback after breaching the key technical support of 3.20, and bets on Bank Negara Malaysia to raise the overnight policy rate next week.
    At 5pm, the local unit firmed against the US dollar to 3.1845/1865 from 3.1955/1975 yesterday.
    The local currency rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.5545/5564 from 2.5632/5652 yesterday and strengthened against the yen to 3.1199/1231 from 3.1344/1370 on Thursday.
    The ringgit was also higher against the British pound at 5.4614/4661 from 5.4764/4808 yesterday and gained against the euro to 4.3271/3308 from 4.3631/3668 on Thursday. – Bernama
