PUTRAJAYA: The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry (NRE) has sought the help of other ministries to combat widespread forest and land encroachment activities in the upland areas of Cameron Highlands.
Its minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel (pix) said he would discuss the matter with Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
He said he would make a suggestion to them to establish a training camp in the upland areas either for the armed forces, police or any other agency under their ministries.
"The presence of the armed forces, police or security forces in the area will frighten off those behind the encroachment activities.
I will raise this issue in the Cabinet meeting," he told reporters after the breaking of fast hosted by his ministry here last night.
Palanivel said he had instructed ministry officials to carry out a thorough investigation on the activities and ask the people in Cameron Highlands to cooperate and provide evidence to his ministry or authorities so that legal action could be taken against the irresponsible parties. – Bernama
