Najib: Bung statement wrong and unacceptable

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) has tweeted that the Hitler remark by Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin is unacceptable as well as wrong, and that the Kinabatangan MP will withdraw it.
"He does not speak for Malaysia, or for ordinary Malaysians who understand Europe's tragic past, and respects its modern unity. This should be a time of celebration for Germany, and we wish them all the best in the (World Cup) final," Najib tweeted today.
Bung, who was earlier defensive of his distasteful statement, has apologised for his remarks.
When he was criticised for his tweet, Bung Mokhtar said he was comparing the strength of the German football team to Hilter's time.
"When Germany whacked Brazil, I unintentionally said something that hurt the feelings of the people in Germany. My sincerest apology," he posted on his twitter account today.
Germany trashed Brazil 7-1 in their World Cup semifinal match, and early Wednesday morning Bung Mokhtar had tweeted "Well done... Bravo... Long live Hitler."
His reference to the Nazi leader that caused The Holocaust, a genocide where six million Jews were killed, was widely criticised locally and internationally.
The German ambassador to Malaysia Holger Michael told Time magazine that he strongly rejected the statement made by Bung Mokhtar.
