Snatch theft suspect nabbed, more than 10 other cases solved

    GEORGE TOWN: Police believe they have solved more than 10 cases of snatch thefts after a man was apprehended at Lebuh Ah Quee here on Tuesday.
    Northeast Penang police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said a 39-year-old man was caught when running away with a bag belonging to a Belgian woman no far from the location at 2.30 pm.
    "A companion of the woman chased the suspect moments after hearing the victim's cries and caught the man," he told reporters here today.
    He said from an inspection of the suspect's house in Grik, Perak, police recovered several wallets, identity cards, handbags, iPAD, three mobile phones and pepper sprays.
    The man, with 11 criminal records, was also found involved in the robbery of an insurance agent in Jalan Nagore several hours before being arrested, he said.
    Mior Faridalatrash said police also seized the man's motorcycle with a false registration plate. Meanwhile, police detained a World Cup football betting bookie in a house at Jalan Semarak Api, Air Itam here early this morning.
    In the raid at 12.05am, police found two computers belonging to the man displaying a website believed to be the medium for illegal betting of football matches, said Mior Faridalatrash.
    He said further investigations found the 43-year-old man had collected bets as low as RM5,000 paid via bank accounts and only contacted his clients online or mobile phone. – Bernama
