Penang Medical College (PMC) held its 14th Conferring Ceremony where a total of 110 students from its class of 2014 received their Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Obstetrics degree from the National University of Ireland (NUI). PMC is jointly owned by two of the oldest and revered medical colleges in Ireland, the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) and the University College Dublin (UCD). Its first joint venture outside Ireland, PMC graduates leverage on this partnership and gain entry into RCSI and UCD in Ireland for their pre-clinical and training coupled with clinical training at Penang General Hospital.
The graduates also received the Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (LRCPI) and the Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (LRCSI).
Gracing the auspicious ceremony were the presidents, heads of departments and fellow academicians from the RCSI, UCD, NUI, Royal College of Physicians in Ireland (RCPI) and PMC. The ceremony which echoes the conferring ceremonies in RCSI and UCD in Dublin witnessed the graduates receiving their scrolls and taking the Hippocratic Oath swearing to practice medicine ethically, honestly and with utmost respect for human life. One of the highlights at the ceremony each year is the student valedictorian speech, the president’s speech, as well as those of VIPs from RCSI, RCPI and UCD, all fascinating and compelling.
