THE French fashion house - which has famously remained faceless since its eponymous Belgian founder departed from the brand in 2009 - is being lead by 30-year-old Matthieu Blazy.
The French fashion house - which has famously remained faceless since its eponymous Belgian founder departed from the brand in 2009 - revealed the lead creative at the Maison Martin Margiela autumn 2014 show at Haute Couture Paris fashion week on Wednesday, July 6.
Matthieu, 30, was spotted hugging his former boss, Raf Simmons, backstage and discussing the oriental-inspired collection which included a century-old coat that once belonged to legendary French fashion designer Paul Poiret.
Vogue fashion writer Suzy Menkes said: "With a touch of the exotic in the fabrics and a tinge of the erotic in flesh-revealing patchworks, an exceptional collection at Maison Martin Margiela brought the designer Matthieu Blazy out of the shadows.
"It is understandable that Renzo Rosso, whose company Only the Brave is behind Margiela, should want to keep Blazy backstage - especially since the founding designer so rarely showed his face. But you can't keep such a talent under wraps."
According to The Telegraph, the label has previously insisted that the team should be considered a "collective whole" and declined to comment on any one individual.
Meanwhile, rapper Kanye West recently made reference to a bejewelled Maison Martin Margiela mask he wore during a bizarre rant as he performed at London's Wireless festival last weekend.
The 37-year-old said: "That's why I got this f****** mask on. Cause I ain't worried about saving face. F*** my face! That sounded wrong. They finally got a headline.
"But f*** whatever my face is supposed to mean and f*** whatever the name Kanye is supposed to mean, it's about my dreams!" – Bang Media
