No decision yet on foreign cook issue

GEORGE TOWN: Penang will obtain feedback from the public before making a final decision on the proposal to bar foreign cooks from hawker stalls.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state was open to any criticism and views from anyone as a decision has not been made on the proposal as state government was still studying the matter.
He reiterated he does not want the state to lose its grip as a top food destination in the country.
"Everyone can give their opinion because at the end of the day the decision still depend on the feedback from the public," he said at a press conference after launching the new elevated walkway on top of Penang Hill today.
Lim was commenting on a statement by celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, or better known as Chef Wan, who had told an English-daily on Monday that the proposal to ban foreigners from cooking was ridiculous.
Chef Wan had stated the foreigners could act as Malaysian cuisine ambassadors upon returning to their homeland to work.
Lim added he respected Chef Wan's views but cautioned he wants to maintain the state's brand as the food haven of the nation.
