KUALA LUMPUR: If you are a victim of a crime or involved in an accident while travelling for Hari Raya and need to alert the police, just go to the nearest Shell petrol station or 7-Eleven convenience store.
Some 942 Shell outlets nationwide, in collaboration with the police, have embarked on a project called “Go to Safety Point” (GTSP) where on pressing a panic button, it will connect you to the mobile phone of a police officer or one of the nearest police stations.
This project also involves 7-Eleven outlets and two post offices in Bukit Bintang.
Deputy director of prevention and community department DCP Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the button will be located at the station counter and another will be carried by one of the staff.
He said: “Once the button is pressed, an alert will be sent to the police in less than 10 minutes.”
He said the objective behind this project is to help people who are in trouble and this initiative is embarked under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) that also provides an option for the public to seek emergency assistance when needed.
The “Go to Safety point” project will be officially launched Friday.
