JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) said Malaysia today conveyed its stand to continue supporting the Palestinians' struggle to Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas.
He said this was stated via his phone call to Abbas at 5.55pm. During the 10-minute phone conversation, Najib said the Malaysian government and people would continue to give undivided support to the Palestinians until they succeeded in fighting for their cause.
Najib said he also stated to Abbas, Malaysia's strong condemnation of Israel's Zionist regime's atrocities against the Palestinians.
"In our conversation, I told him that Malaysia is one of the countries that strongly support the Palestinian cause," he said in his speech at a breaking of fast with Johor leaders and ordinary people at the Johor Persada Internatioal Convention Centre, here.
Also present were Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Najib said the solid support for the Palestinians did not come only from the Muslims in Malaysia but from all its people of different races and religions.
"Although there are some opposition leaders who say that we should support Israel's right to defend itself, but for the Barisan Nasional government, the rights and sovereignty of Palestine come first," he said.
Najib described Israel's attacks as disproportionate response to Palestinians' opposition to Israeli occupation and oppression, as sophisticated weapons were used in the attacks. – Bernama
