Almost 10,000 fire personnel on standby during Aidilfitri

    BACHOK: The Fire and Rescue Department has put on standby 9,700 personnel to be deployed nationwide to assist in any untoward incidents, including rescuing fire and road accident victims during the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
    Its director-general Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim said the department would launch the 14-day Ops Raya this Monday and concentrate on 16 locations along the North-South Expressway.
    "These 16 locations are areas that accidents frequently occur during Hari Raya which we will focus on besides conducting patrols in other places periodically," he told Bernama here last night.
    Earlier Wan Mohd Nor officiated at the house key presentaion through the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) programme to the family of Zainun Donik, 61, in Kampung Gelong Badak Hulu, Jelawat here.
    He said during the festive seasons, road accidents often increased by 10 percent from normal days and hoped road users would exercise caution while on the roads. – Bernama
