British Council opens new branch in mall

British Council Mutiara Damansara is the first branch housed inside a shopping mall. The 590 sq metre facility is located on the second floor of The Curve.
The branch is scheduled to deliver the same English courses provided in the Kuala Lumpur branch, with programmes for children between the ages of five and 17, and communicative English courses in the evenings for young adults and professionals.
British Council Malaysia celebrated the opening of the branch recently with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony by its country director, Gavin Anderson. Also present was actress Kaameshaa Ravindran of Astro’s Oh My English.
“The British Council is excited to be able to provide the public more access to English, to help them develop and improve their language proficiency. We are also grateful to have this platform for further growth,” Anderson said.
“We are excited about this new chapter and we hope to have more branches in the Klang Valley and other cities over the next five years. We look forward to serving these communities and bringing our unique style of teaching, along with learning opportunities to them,” he added.
“We hope that families will appreciate the convenience the new branch brings,” said British Council’s branch development manager Ginny Rowlands. “Parents can drop their children off for lessons and then get on with their shopping.”
Registration is now open for the courses that will run at the Mutiara Damansara branch. These are English courses for pre-school, primary and secondary school levels, including English for primary school classes, and IELTS preparation courses.
The new branch has been designed with nine state-of-the-art classrooms and the latest audio visual equipment to help its team of professional teachers deliver the distinctive methodology that British Council is proud of.
The main Kuala Lumpur branch situated at Wisma Selangor Dredging, Jalan Ampang has seen dramatic growth over the last decade and currently teaches English to approximately 3,000 students in a typical week.
Current courses include fast track study skills to prepare students for university, professional skills for working adults, and the hugely popular interactive courses for children. The Kuala Lumpur branch will also offer special school holiday workshops for children in December.
In addition to their on-site courses, British Council also provides customised courses for organisations looking to improve their staff’s oral and written communication in English. These can be delivered at the place of work and tailored for maximum effectiveness.
