TASEK GELUGOR: Two young brothers drowned when they fell into an abandoned fish pond opposite their grandfather's house in Kampung Matahari Naik here today.
Muhammad Zakuan Ramli, four, and Muhammad Hakimi, two, were found drowned by their mother, Juliana Ahmad, 33, in the pond about 8.30am.
The pond is located about 50m from the house. Muhammad Zakuan's twin brother, Muhammad Zaki, who was playing with his two siblings near the pond earlier, is safe.
Juliana said she was looking after her father, Ahmad Din, 74, who had suffered a stroke, while the three children were playing outside the house.
"Later, when I went to look for them, I only saw Muhammad Zaki and he pointed towards the pond.
"I rushed to the pond and managed to pull one of my children from the water, and with the help of my sister, we found my other son and took them to the Kepala Batas Hospital.
"I was devastated when the doctor said both my sons were dead," she said.
Seberang Perai Utara police chief ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said the case was classified as sudden death. – Bernama
