Company director pleads not guilty to hurting wife

    KUALA LUMPUR: A oil and gas company director pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge of causing hurt on his wife. Behrang Baghernejad, 37, is charged with hurting Negar Mirzaaliakbar, 33, at their house at Cendana Condo, Jalan Ampang here at 9.30pm last July 8.
    Baghernejad, who holds a British and Iranian citizenship, is charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum imprisonment for a year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, if found guilty.
    The couple has a six-year-old child. Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin allowed Baghernejad bail of RM2,000 with one Malaysian surety.
    He was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court and to report himself at the nearest police station every fortnight. The court set Sept 4 for mention. Deputy public prosecutor Ooi Chean Ling prosecuted, while lawyer Gurmukh Singh represented Baghernejad.
