TEMERLOH: The male baby elephant caught by wildlife personnel near the Lanchang Farm Forest last July 10 has been named "Lanchang" after the place it was found.
National Elephant Conservation Unit chief Nasaruddin Othman said the three-month-old elephant has now weighed 110 kg from 98 kg previously.
"It now drinks 25 litres of milk powder three or four times daily from only 16 litres daily when it was first caught but has not being given any solid food yet because it is still a baby," he told Bernama here.
He said after 17 days at the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary in Lanchang, it had regained its health under the supervision of two elephant taming experts.

The baby elepjant is kept in a special area and separated from the group of elephants found at the centre.
"We want the baby elephant to familiarise itself with the surroundings first which will take about three or five months before it can mingle together with the other older elephants there," he said.
The unit managed to capture three baby elephants in Jerantut and Rompin over a two-year period, added Nasharuddin. – Bernama
