IGP, Ahmad Zahid and police team leave for Kiev

SEPANG: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) and 68 police officers from various units together with Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi left for Kiev, Ukraine at 11pm, last night.
Khalid stated that there are two main missions of the trip to Kiev.
» Secure the MAS flight MH17 crash site to protect all the evidence from being taken by other parties.
» Collect any remaining evidence from the scene.
The team will collaborate with international police forces to investigate the cause of the tragedy.
"We will seek Ukraine's aid to get their safety team to enter the crash site," said Khalid.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid will hand over a formal letter from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko as a token of gratitude to the government for their cooperation on this tragic incident.
Ahmad Zahid said the three countries leading the investigations are the Netherlands, Australia and Malaysia.
He added that the duration of the police teams' time in Kiev is uncertain as of now.
The team will land in Kiev before going to Kharkiv to secure twelve other forensics there.
The team who will be equipped with bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets and other safety devices however will enter unarmed as such are the conditions stipulated.
