Dengue kills seven in Kelantan up to July

    KOTA BARU: Deaths due to dengue fever in Kelantan is becoming more worrying after seven people died between January and July this year compared to zero fatality recorded throughout 2013.
    Kelantan Health Director Datuk Dr Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir said that during the first seven months of this year, 5,367 cases were recorded compared with 756 cases for the corresponding period of 2013.
    "This shows a rather significant rise which is 575 per cent above the 2013 figure," he told reporters, here today.
    He said the Kota Baru district reported the highest cases of dengue fever with 79 per cent followed by Tumpat (10.2 per cent), Bachok (3.6 per cent) and Tanah Merah (1.7 per cent).
    Ahmad Razin said 295 localities were reported to have dengue cases and of this figure, 39 localities were detected to be 'hotspots'. – Bernama
