Choice of Wan Azizah smacks of nepotism: Ideas CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail could be the "worst possible candidate" to replace embattled Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, a libertarian think tank pointed out.
Institute of Democratic and Economic Affairs (Ideas) chief executive officer Wan Saiful Wan Jan said this, although he is of the opinion that it is about time Khalid takes heed of the party's advice to step down and that Wan Azizah, who is also Kajang assemblyman, could possibly be a good MB.
"However, putting her – the wife of (PKR de facto leader and Parliament Opposition leader) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim – as MB smacks of cronyism, nepotism and corruption, which are what Pakatan Rakyat has been fighting against," he said at "The Selangor MB Crisis and the Ways Forward" public forum, at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Association Hall last night.
Wan Saiful also pointed out that PKR's insistence to keep the MB post within the party would not only give ammunition to Khalid's supporters, but also to Barisan Nasional to hit out at the PR coalition.
