BEIJING: The death toll from the strong earthquake that struck southwest China's Yunnan province on Sunday has risen to 410 with 2,373 people injured as of 2.30pm (same time in Malaysia) today, Xinhua news agency reported.
The quake has also left 12 people missing and forced 230,000 people to evacuate from their homes for safety, it quoted the provincial government as saying.
The quake, reportedly the strongest to hit the region in 14 years, struck at 4.30pm on Sunday with its epicentre in Longtoushan township, Ludian County, in Zhaotong City.
Thousands of police, firefighters and soldiers have been mobilised to the scene where bad road conditions in the remote mountainous area have complicated rescue efforts. – Bernama
