CYBERJAYA: Umno Youth has submitted a memorandum to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission calling for action against those who insulted Islam and the Malays.
Its vice-chief, Khairul Azwan Harun, said the insults made have crossed the line and showed that respect for religion and race has eroded.
"The MCMC has failed to act against those who insulted the religion despite the presence of proof and apology," he said when met at the MCMC office today.
The memorandum was submitted to MCMC's senior director of strategic Ccommunications, Sheikh Raffie Abd Rahman.
Khairul Azwan said the act of insulting other religions on social networking sites and then making apology without action taken was unacceptable.
He gave the MCMC seven days to provide feedback failing which he will list all cases of insult against religion and race that it failed to act.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Raffie said tracing the real person who made the insult is difficult because most of them use fake accounts.
"Anyone with information of any individual who insulted religion on social networking sites can report to the MCMC and action can be taken under Section 211 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he added. – Bernama
