DPM states M'sia's stand on Palestine in meeting with US Senator

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has urged the international community to play a stronger role in protecting and defending the rights of the Palestinians and to stop the bloodshed in Gaza.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made the stand known to a member of the United States Senate International Affairs Committee, Republican Senator Bob Corker from Tennessee who visited him at his office, here, today.
At the meeting, Muhyiddin said Malaysia had never changed its stand and commitment towards Palestine.
"Malaysia has never wavered in its undivided support for the struggle of the Palestinians," he said in a statement issued in conjunction with the courtesy visit.
Muhyiddin said the government and people of Malaysia were against and condemned the attacks and atrocities committed by Israel's Zionist regime against the Palestinians.
Malaysia also called on Israel to cease its atrocities against the Palestinians in Gaza and urged the United States to play a bigger role in ensuring stability and harmony in Gaza, he said.
Muhyiddin said Malaysia demanded that Israel immediately stop the mass killings and inhuman treatment of unarmed civilians in Gaza.
The 45-minute meeting also discussed the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 and flight MH17 which crashed in Ukraine, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), developments in the South China Sea and the outcome of President Barrack Obama's visit to Malaysia. – Bernama
