PETALING JAYA: theSun-Mercy Malaysia Bosnia Flood Disaster Relief Fund received a boost from Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd which donated RM50,000 to the cause.
A mock cheque for the donation was presented by Sports Toto corporate communications manager Giam Say Khoon to theSun managing editor Freddie Ng, today.
Giam said Sports Toto hopes its donation would help in the recovery from the floods which hit Bosnia last May, causing more than 100,000 houses to be damaged and affecting about a million people.
"It is our corporate social responsibility to help those in need," said Giam who lauded theSun's initiative to launch the fund in aid of Bosnia.
"It is good that we do not only help locals, as we also need to help the international community as well," he added.
theSun launched the fund in mid May after Cyclone Tamara brought unprecedented rains to the Balkan region, resulting in the worst flooding in 120 years.
A total of RM1.1 million (BAM500,000) in the form of much needed medical equipment has been pledged to two Bosnian hospitals in the towns of Doboj and Maglaj which were the worst affected areas.
Meanwhile, Ng acknowledged the contribution from another company, KUB-Berjaya Enviro Sdn Bhd which had earlier this week sent in a cheque to theSun, for a RM50,000 donation to the cause.
With these contributions, theSun-Mercy Malaysia Bosnia Flood Disaster Relief Fund now stands at RM1,078,000.
