First batch of police team back from Ukraine

PETALING JAYA: The first batch of the 'special forces' police team that was sent to Ukraine to help in investigations in the crash of MH17 arrived at the KL International Airport today about 6.30am.
The team, involving 27 officers from the Federal Reserve Unit and VAT69 commando unit, was led by the deputy commanding officer of the FRU Johor Baru, DSP Lau Pang Tai.
"We heard the sound of gunfire and bombing when we were there. It was a very challenging task for us yet we managed to return home safely," said Lau at KLIA today.
The special team had left for Ukraine on July 30 and had spent 10 days there.
The team was welcomed by the director of Federal Police Management Department, Datuk Seri Muhamad Fuzi Harun, at the arrival hall of KLIA.
Fuzi said the team was assigned to Ukraine with the mission to look for all the evidences at the crash site of the Boeing 777-200.
Another batch of 11 officers from the forensic unit also landed at KLIA at about 5.55pm today while more police personnel are scheduled to arrive at KLIA at about 6.10am tomorrow.
